Peter Edgeworth, Viscount Whitleaf, is utterly charming-and seemingly unaware that they have met before. and instantly feels the icy chill of recognition. I do think that I would have found it difficult to forgive Peter’s mother for her role – she is definitely an unlikable character. On a splendid August afternoon Susanna Osbourne is introduced to the most handsome man she has ever seen. He pushes her to talk to the family with whom she once lived and to learn about her father’s last wishes. One the aspects I thought quite fitting was the way in which Peter works to help Susanna find closure. Peter’s mother played a role (a rather significant one), in Charles Osbourne’s decision to take his own life. The issues that threaten to separate Susanna and Peter surround her father and his suicide. However, he is persistent – and eventually, Susanna allows herself to actually like Peter and become his friend. Susanne certainly has reason to try and distance herself from Peter. She recognizes the Whitleaf title from her family’s past association with the Edgecombes.

Initially, Susanna wants nothing to do with Peter. Susanna Osbourne and Peter Edgecombe, Viscount Whitleaf are wonderful characters who seem so right for each other – in spite of the problems that threaten to separate them. I was actually a bit surprised by how much I enjoyed Simply Magic.
